Renée Georges & GEORJAZZ – Tapestries: Celebrating Jazz Appreciation Month

April 12 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

$20

Renée Georges, brings an unparalleled blend of glamour and vocal prowess to every stage she graces. Following her tenure touring alongside the legendary Ray Charles, she has established herself as a captivating headliner, captivating audiences both domestically and internationally. As noted by Prince George’s Suite Magazine, her performances are marked by a captivating allure and an expert command of the vocal art form.

Returning to the esteemed venue of Mr. Henry’s Upstairs, Renée Georges and GEORJAZZ are set to commemorate Jazz Appreciation Month with a tribute to the rulers of jazz: Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat Cole, and Billie Holiday, among others. Through inventive arrangements of beloved standards and soul-stirring original compositions, they weave together a tapestry of jazz that pays homage to its rich history while infusing it with contemporary vibrancy.

Joining Renée on stage are some of the most accomplished musicians and educators from the DMV area, including her husband and collaborator, trombonist DuPort Georges, percussionist Nasar Abadey, and piano prodigy José André Montaño.

The performance will feature Renée’s original compositions, including the Latin Jazz themed, My Birthday Wish For You and the poignant What Sound Does Your Color Make, a reflection on racial injustice and resilience penned during the tumultuous summer of 2020. Audiences will also be treated to Renée’s popular mashup of La Vie En Rose and What’s Goin’ On, showcasing her unique interpretation and seamless blending of classics. The evening will culminate with the crowd-pleasing favorite Hit the Road, Jack!—a personal ode from Renée, drawing from her experiences as one of the last Raelettes to tour with the iconic Ray Charles.

Jazz Tapestries is a captivating exploration of jazz narratives, told through Renée Collins Georges’ melodious originals and inventive arrangements of timeless standards, honed through performances on stages across the globe.
